Our Top 9 Reasons to Get Regularly Adjusted
Chiropractic care treats the whole body; not just the spine. At Spine and Rehabilitation of Morris Cedar Knolls, we do more than provide pain relief. We’ve compiled our top nine reasons to get regularly adjusted so you can see what’s truly in it for you.
1. Decreases reliance on opioids
A large 2020 study compared the number of prescriptions for opioid pain relievers filled for adults who visited just their doctor or who visited both a chiropractor and their doctor to treat spinal pain. The study found that adults who visited a chiropractor were less likely to get an opioid prescription filled for their pain compared to those who only saw their doctor.
2. Back pain relief
A 2017 study found that spinal manipulation was associated with moderate improvements in short-term back pain and function compared to placebo treatment for up to 6 weeks.
3. Neck pain relief
Studies found that 12 weeks of spinal manipulation was more effective than medication at treating non-specific neck pain, and a 2019 study cervical spine manipulation may help decrease neck pain.
4. Headache/migraine relief
Studies show that cervical and upper thoracic spine manipulation provided relief in people with chronic headaches. This was still the case at a 3-month follow-up.
5. Lower blood pressure
A study published in the Human Journal of Hypertension showed that a chiropractic adjustment could give people suffering from high blood pressure the same effect as taking certain high blood pressure medications. This study also showed that the effects of the adjustment would persist for 6 months after the adjustment.
6. Reduce inflammation
Inflammation is often the enemy when experiencing joint pain, issues, and tension, and chronic inflammation is linked to many diseases, including cancer and heart disease. Chiropractic care has been shown to reduce inflammation.
7. Help athletic performance.
Quite a few professional and college level sports teams have a team chiropractor. Adjustments can reduce pain and tension caused by sports and activity.
8. Boost immune function
Since your immune system relies on your nervous system to achieve optimal function, a misalignment in your spine can hamper your defenses. Studies show that people who practice chiropractic maintenance have fewer colds than others.
9. Improve digestion
There are nerves in your spine that are connected to your stomach. A misalignment can trigger excess acid production, resulting in gas, heartburn, and acid reflux. A chiropractic adjustment can help the nerves in the thoracic spine work properly, thus eliminating digestive issues.
